Abstract: High-rise buildings are increasingly becoming essential in modern urban development; however, their height, flexibility, and dynamic characteristics make them highly vulnerable to seismic forces. Understanding their behavior under earthquake loading is critical for ensuring structural safety, serviceability, and occupant protection. This study presents a comprehensive seismic behavior analysis of multi-storey high-rise buildings using advanced computational modeling techniques such as Finite Element Analysis (FEA). Multiple three-dimensional structural models are developed using industry-standard software tools such as ETABS, STAAD Pro, and SAP2000. The study considers various lateral load-resisting systems, including moment-resisting frames, shear wall systems, outrigger and belt truss systems, and structures equipped with damping devices. All models are designed with identical geometric configurations and material properties while varying structural systems to enable a comparative evaluation. Seismic analysis is performed in accordance with IS 1893 (Part 1): 2016 using the Response Spectrum Method, along with modal analysis to determine natural frequencies and mode shapes. Key performance parameters such as storey displacement, inter-storey drift, base shear, axial forces, and stress distribution are extracted and analyzed. The results indicate that the incorporation of shear walls, outrigger systems, and damping devices significantly improves structural stiffness, reduces lateral displacement, and enhances overall seismic performance. The study also identifies critical stress zones and suggests appropriate retrofitting techniques to improve structural resilience. The findings of this research provide valuable insights for structural engineers in selecting efficient structural configurations and implementing earthquake-resistant design strategies for high-rise buildings, ensuring compliance with Indian seismic design standards and promoting safer urban infrastructure.
