Abstract: The growing emphasis on sustainable energy solutions has increased the need for efficient integration of renewable sources with electrical drive systems. Among the available options, solar photovoltaic (PV) energy offers a reliable and eco-friendly alternative; however, its inherent variability due to changing environmental conditions poses challenges in maintaining a stable power supply. In this context, this paper presents the design and analysis of a solar-powered induction motor drive system incorporating a modified Single-Ended Primary Inductor Converter (SEPIC). The proposed system utilizes a PV array as the primary energy source, where the generated output varies with solar irradiance and temperature. To address this variability, a modified SEPIC converter is employed to regulate the DC output voltage. Unlike conventional converters, the modified topology is capable of operating in both step-up and step-down modes, enabling improved voltage gain, reduced ripple content, and enhanced overall efficiency. This regulated DC output is subsequently fed into a three-phase voltage source inverter, which converts it into controlled AC power suitable for driving a squirrel cage induction motor. In order to ensure stable and efficient operation, an appropriate control strategy is implemented for the converter and inverter stages. The complete system is modeled and analyzed using MATLAB/Simulink, where key performance parameters such as output voltage, current characteristics, motor speed, and torque response are evaluated under varying operating conditions. The simulation results demonstrate that the proposed configuration is capable of maintaining stable voltage regulation and consistent motor performance despite fluctuations in solar input. Additionally, the system shows improved dynamic response and reliable operation, making it a suitable solution for standalone and renewable energy-based motor drive applications. Overall, the proposed approach contributes to enhancing the efficiency and practicality of solar-powered drive systems.
