The current research paper analyzes the cost structure and profit levels of inpatient (IPD)and outpatient (OPD) departments within the Medway Hospitals in Chennai, India. The key purpose of the research is to assess the financial and operational performances of IPD and OPD departments. Descriptive and analytical methodologies have been used in conducting this research.Primary data were gathered from 75 respondents through questionnaire surveys and personal interviews, while secondary information was sourced from hospital databases and academic literature. Percentage calculations, descriptive statistics, comparative studies, and chi-square tests have been conducted with the help of SPSS software. It has been observed that the OPD department generates continuous cash flows and improves the turnover rate of the patients. However, the IPD department requires higher costs of infrastructure and maintenance. Both departments substantially add to the bottom line of hospitals; however, OPD services appear to be marginally more profitable than IPD services.
