The UNCITRAL Model Law on International Commercial Arbitration was prepared to standardize fragmented national arbitration laws and to achieve uniformity and certainty for international cross-border dispute resolution. This article analyses the influence of the Model law on the practice and evolution of the International Commercial Arbitration since its adoption in 1985 and Amendments in 2006. By doctrinal examination and comparative evaluation of national legislative amendments and judicial reactions, the paper concludes that the Model Law greatly promoted legislative convergence and arbitration- friendly procedures in a large number of jurisdictions, enhanced award enforceability, and deepened party autonomy-while facing challenges from divergence in domestic court interpretation, partial implementation, and ongoing procedural divergence. The article concludes with a set of recommendations to maximize the Model Law’s effectiveness and proposes avenues for future research.
