Abstract: ABSTRACT: A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted to assess the depression levels among 30 male and 30 female college students using a self-administered structured questionnaire. Originally, Beck's Depression Inventory (BDI) was developed by Aron T. Beck (1961) in English having 21 items of varying symptoms intended to assess depression. The objective of the inventory is to assess depression levels and determine the association between depression and socio-demographic variables. The purpose of this study is to assess and compare the depression levels between males and females. All the items of inventory are highly reliable and valid for individuals between the ages 18-25.Research suggests that females are more likely to experience depression, possibly due to hormonal fluctuations, social roles, and greater susceptibility to stress. In contrast, males may exhibit atypical symptoms such as irritability, aggression, or substance abuse, which can lead to underdiagnosis or misdiagnosis. Additionally, societal expectations often discourage men from seeking help, contributing to disparities in treatment outcomes. By analyzing epidemiological data, clinical studies, and psychological theories, this research aims to highlight the importance of gender-sensitive approaches in diagnosis, treatment, and prevention. Understanding these differences can improve mental health interventions and ensure more effective support for individuals struggling with depression.
