The Data Encryption Standard (DES) is a widely used symmetric encryption algorithm, but its computational overhead makes it inefficient for high-speed applications. This paper proposes an optimized implementation of DES using Vedic Mathematics, a system of ancient Indian mathematical techniques that accelerates arithmetic operations. Three key Vedic techniques are integrated into DES: Urdhva-Tiryagbhyam Sutra for efficient key expansion, Nikhilam Sutra for fast modular arithmetic in S-box computations, and Paravartya Sutra for optimized XOR operations. The proposed method improves DES execution speed, reduces complexity, and enhances power efficiency, making it suitable for embedded systems, cryptographic hardware (FPGA, VLSI), and real-time security applications. Experimental results demonstrate that Vedic-optimized DES achieves a 35% improvement in key scheduling time and a 20% reduction in overall encryption time compared to traditional DES. The proposed approach retains the original security of DES while enhancing computational efficiency. This paper presents the design, implementation, and performance evaluation of Vedic-enhanced DES, highlighting its practical advantages over conventional methods.
