Abstract: Purpose: To investigate the prevalence of Human Papillomavirus (HPV) among cervical cancer patients in the western region of India. We aim to contribute to the understanding of the incidences of cervical cancer in the region. This study aims to uncover HPV's impact on cervical cancer development, guiding public health efforts for prevention and management. Method: DNA was isolated from 220 samples, followed by qualitative real-time PCR to detect high-risk HPVs such as 16 and 18. Data analysis was performed using QIAScreen RGQ Profile V.1.0 net. Result: The total HPV prevalence in the studied cohort was 55%, with HPV 16 being the most prevalent at 58.7%, followed by HPV 18 at 19.8%, and other HPVs at 21.5%. Notably, HPV 16 showed a significantly higher prevalence among cases compared to other HPV variants. Conclusion: The findings underscore the substantial prevalence of HPV, particularly HPV 16, among cervical cancer patients in the western region of India, emphasizing the urgent need for targeted prevention and management strategies to curb the burden of cervical cancer.
Keywords: HPV, cervical cancer, prevalence, qualitative real-time PCR
