Abstract: Background: Urinary tract infection (UTI) is one of the commonest bacterial infections that can occur to any individual irrespective of their age and gender. At present, cases of urinary tract infection are increasing day by day which affected around the 50% of the whole population especially among women. Aims: To assess the knowledge, attitude and practices of urinary tract infection in females at a college in Bangalore. Methods: In this study, a sample size of 150 female students of Karnataka College Group Of Institution, Bangalore has participated and their demographic details were collected and a well defined questionnaire was distributed to them to obtain their knowledge, attitude and practices of UTI. Afterwards the information obtained were assessed using scores, graphs and tables. Results: The study was done to assess the level of knowledge, attitude and practices of UTI among college students. The study found that 82 (54.6%) have good knowledge towards UTI, 63 (42%) have average knowledge and 5 (3.3%) have poor knowledge on UTI. The study revealed that 107 (71.3 %) of the respondents have good attitude towards UTI, 40 (26.6%) have average and 3 (2%) have poor attitude towards UTI respectively. It study also found that 116 ( 77.3 %) follow good prevention practices against UTI, 31 ( 20.6%) follow average prevention practice and 3 (2%) follows poor prevention practices against UTI . The study also found that among the 150 samples 20 (13.3%) of them had a history of UTI .Among the 20 samples 11 (55%) of them stays at hostel , 5 (25 %) of them stays at home and 4 (20%) of them stays at PG. Limitations: All studies that are being carried out have its limitations and boundaries. Hence, being a cross sectional study, this study also had its all limitations which were noted during the study period. The study is limited in between age group of 17 -30 years. Some of them were not willing to participate in the study. Clinical evaluation is not available. Conclusion: In conclusion it is very much essential for a health care professional to educate the students on the causes and severity of urinary tract infection. Encouraging each individual in practicing necessary preventive measures for the reduction of occurrence of infection is highly recommended and unavoidable. Different awareness outreach campaign programs should be conducted to make the individuals well informed about the severity of urinary tract infection. Females who have already experienced UTI at the beginning should be encouraged to treat and eradicate the infection.
