Paper Title:
Effect of Acbt Along With Incentive Spirometry Versus Acbt Along With Flutter Device On Quality Of Life And Functional Capacity In Acute Exacerbation Of Copd Patients
ABSTRACT
Background: Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a progressive inflammatory disease of the lung characterized by chronic bronchitis , airway thickening and emphysema.Acute exacerbation of COPD was defined increased dyspnoea ,increased sputum and increases sputum purulence. Patients with COPD complaints of breathlessness, chest tightness, generalized weakness, fever, cough (with expectorations). Patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease usually experience gradual functional status degradation, especially dyspnoea, which may affect their daily activities and, eventually, quality of life.
Aim:
To compare the effect Effect of ACBT along with Incentive spirometry versus ACBT along with Flutter device on Quality of life and Functional capacity in acute exacerbation of COPD patients.
Methodology:
Participants were briefed about the nature of the study and the intervention. Their informed written consent were taken. 42 participants were selected based on the selection criteria. Prior and after the treatment both the outcome measures, six minute walk test and CAT questionnaire (COPD assessment test) were taken . Participants were randomly divided into two groups with n=21 in each group. Group A received ACBT with Incentive spirometer while group B received ACBT with Flutter device. The treatment was given for 3 days / week for 4 weeks
Outcome measures:
Prior and after the treatment both the outcome measures, Quality of life by CAT questionnaire (COPD assessment test) and functional capacity by six minute walk test
Results: The group A and Group B both groups showed statistically significant result (p=0.0001)
When both groups were compared , functional capacity with the help of six minute walk test shows more improvements in Group B than Group A and in quality of life with the help of CAT questionnaire Group B shows more improvements than Group A for six minute walk test(P=0.003) and for CAT Questionnaire (p=0.001)
Conclusion: It is concluded that treatment protocol that the study showed that ACBT with Incentive spirometry and ACBT with Flutter device are significant and have been proved statistically significant .Group B shows more significance than Group A in health outcome measures.
