| Abstract: | Rhabdomyosarcoma is a type of sarcoma in children . Rhabdomyosarcoma can affect various sites as head & neck , genitourinary tract from which 35% site of occurrence is head & neck . Whereas 8.9 cases incidence per million for pediatric RMS of age 0 - 14 in India . Historical types include Embryonal rhabdomyosarcoma , Alveolar rhabdomyosarcoma from which 70% comprises Embryonal rhabdomyosarcoma & 20 % cases of Alveolar rhabdomyosarcoma. various tests are performed along with physical examination such as CT scan , Ultrasound , MRI ( Magnetic Resonance Imaging ) , biopsy & blood tests .The gene responsible for rhabdomyosarcoma is FOXO1 gene keeps the PAX gene active, which seems to be what leads to the tumor forming . In the treatment usually biopsy is done with adjuvant chemotherapy. In chemotherapy drugs such as vincristin, actinomycin- D , etoposide , cyclophosphamide, intravenous vinorelbine , ifosphamide are given in combination for period of months to yeras . Radiation therapy is also given to any area of remaining disease after 6 to 12 weeks of chemotherapy |
