Synthesis and photoluminescence properties of Sr2Mg(BO3)2:Bi3+ and Sr2Mg(BO3)2:Bi3+-M+ (M=Li, Na, K) are discussed in this work. The synthesized phosphor was characterized using X-ray diffraction and Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy. Photoluminescence PL measurements at room temperature shows that, under the excitation of 301 nm, prepared phosphors achieved the band emissions at 375 nm corresponding to the transition 3P1→1S0. Optimum concentration and critical transfer distance of the synthesized materials were measured. Sr2Mg(BO3)2:Bi3+ phosphor shows enhancement in luminescence intensity by charge compensation with univalent ions. Na+ was observed to be optimum charge compensator.
