Abstract: Foreign exchange reserves constitute an essential component of a country's economic strength and external sector stability. They serve as a safeguard against external shocks, facilitate international trade, support exchange rate management, and enhance investor confidence. India has witnessed significant growth in its foreign exchange reserves since the economic liberalization reforms of 1991. The accumulation of foreign exchange reserves serves as a safeguard against external shocks, enhances investor confidence, and strengthens the country's ability to meet its international payment obligations. The present study examines the trends and movement of India's foreign exchange reserves over time and analyzes the factors contributing to their fluctuations. The study relies on secondary data collected from official publications of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), Ministry of Finance, and other relevant sources. The findings reveal a substantial increase in reserves driven by foreign capital inflows, export earnings, remittances, and prudent reserve management policies. The study highlights the importance of maintaining adequate reserves to ensure macroeconomic stability and sustainable economic growth.
