Abstract: This study examines the tribal livelihood patterns and socio-economic conditions in West Singhbhum district of Jharkhand, a region predominantly inhabited by indigenous communities such as the Ho tribe. The research focuses on traditional sources of livelihood including agriculture, forest-based activities, and wage labor, while also analyzing the impact of modernization and industrialization on these practices. It highlights key challenges such as poverty, unemployment, low literacy rates, and limited access to healthcare and education. The study further explores issues related to land rights, displacement, and migration, which significantly affect tribal well-being. Government initiatives and development programs aimed at improving living standards are also critically evaluated. The findings reveal that despite rich cultural heritage and natural resources, tribal communities continue to face socio-economic marginalization. The study emphasizes the need for sustainable development strategies, inclusive policies, and community participation to ensure balanced growth and improved quality of life for the tribal population in the district.
