The present study examines the significant yet often underrepresented contribution of Kashmiri Pandits to Persian literature from the medieval to the early modern period. With the establishment of Persian as the court, administrative, and literary language in Kashmir—particularly under the Sultanate, Mughal, and Afghan regimes—Kashmiri Pandits emerged as prominent scholars, poets, historians, translators, and administrators writing in Persian. Drawing upon historical chronicles, literary texts, and modern scholarship, this paper highlights the intellectual versatility and cultural syncretism embodied in their works. Figures such as Bhawanidas Kachru, Taba Ram Turki (Betab), Narayan Kaul Ajiz, Chandar Bhan Brahman, and others played a crucial role in enriching Indo-Persian literary traditions through poetry, historiography, philosophy, and mysticism. Their writings reflect a harmonious blending of Persian literary forms with indigenous Kashmiri and Sanskritic intellectual traditions, contributing to Kashmir’s reputation as “Little Iran.” The study also underscores the enduring legacy of these contributions in shaping Persianate culture in South Asia and emphasizes the role of Kashmiri Pandits as cultural intermediaries who preserved, transmitted, and expanded Persian literary and intellectual heritage.
