This paper explores the emerging use of virtual autopsy (virtopsy) in forensic science and its potential legal admissibility in Indian courts. While countries like Germany, Switzerland, and the UK have integrated vitropsy into their medico-legal systems, India lacks legislative recognition and infrastructural readiness. Through doctrinal analysis of the Indian Evidence Act, 1872, CrPC, 1973, and relevant forensic protocols, this paper argues that vitropsy can qualify as admissible expert evidence under current law, provided that procedural safeguards are observed. It concludes with a roadmap for integrating vitropsy into Indian forensic and legal practice.
