This study rigorously investigates the interplay between personality traits and achievement motivation among judo players, with a particular emphasis on the implications for athletic performance. Utilizing the Big Five Personality Traits framework, we scrutinize the correlations between specific traits—namely conscientiousness, neuroticism, and extraversion—and levels of achievement motivation as well as performance outcomes within a sample of 120 competitive judo practitioners. Quantitative analyses reveal that conscientiousness is positively associated with heightened achievement motivation (r = 0.61, p < 0.01) and superior performance rankings, while emotional stability shows a significant positive correlation with achievement motivation (r = 0.45, p < 0.05). In contrast, neuroticism demonstrates a detrimental effect, exhibiting a negative correlation with both achievement motivation (r = -0.39, p < 0.05) and performance outcomes (r = -0.43, p < 0.01). These findings underscore the critical role of psychological traits in shaping competitive performance, thereby providing actionable insights for coaches and sports psychologists aimed at optimizing athlete development strategies.
