Abstract
Alternaria species are among the most destructive fungal pathogens affecting a wide range of crops, leading to significant agricultural losses. Conventional chemical fungicides, while effective, pose environmental and health concerns, emphasizing the need for eco-friendly alternatives. This study explores the efficacy of various plant extracts in managing Alternaria infections. Extracts from plants such as Allium sativum (garlic), Argemone mexicana L and Datura metel have been evaluated for their antifungal properties. Laboratory and field trials reveal that these extracts inhibit mycelial growth and spore germination, reducing disease incidence. When integrated with biocontrol agents like Trichoderma harzianum, their efficacy improves further, highlighting their potential in sustainable disease management strategies. The findings underscore the role of plant-based fungicides in reducing the reliance on chemical pesticides, minimizing environmental risks, and ensuring safer agricultural practices. This research advocates for the broader application of plant extracts in integrated disease management systems to enhance crop protection sustainably.
