Abstract: The “ one nation one election ” initiative envisions conducting elections for the lok sabha ( national parliament ) and all state assemblies simultaneously. This proposal seeks to streamline the electoral process , reduce the cost of frequent elections and minimize the disruption of governance caused by constant campaigning. By aligning election cycle , it aims to provide governments with stable tenures , ensuring a greater focus on policy making and development. However , the idea presents significant challenges, including the need for constitutional amendments the logistics of coordinating large-scale elections and potential implications for federalism and regional diversity. Critics also question its impact on voter behaviour and the representation of regional issues. While the concept holds promise in improving efficiency ,its implementation would require consensus among stakeholders and robust planning to address operational and democratic concerns. NITI Aayog plays a pivotal role in shaping the discourse and evaluating the feasibility of the ONOE initiative in india. Lower the expenses associated with elections and promote improved governance by synchronizing elections with national and state-level matters, rather than conducting separate elections in various cycles. In 2018, NITI Aayog published a report advocating for this approach, indicating that it could enhance efficiency and governance through the consolidation of the electoral process.
