Abstract: Shaped by the cultural heritage, traditions, and the interplay of transnational movement; the concept of ‘home’ is an intricate construct for the individuals residing outside their native region. Navigating the sense of ‘identity’ and ‘belonging’ while maintaining a close tie to the cultural roots, Dhan Gopal Mukerji, an eminent Indian American author and immigrant of early 20th century led the foundation of a prophetic vision of exchange of cultural practices, custom and tradition between the home and the host nation. Against the polarities of race and the great ignorance about India in the ‘seed continent’ of America (the land of dreams) Mukerji with his writings for the young minds helped both America and India in learning Science and Serenity from each other. Contributing to a broader understanding of transnational identities and the complexities of cultural retention and transformation, Mukerji is known for his eloquent portrayal of Indian culture and values. Exploring the representation of Indian-American reciprocity in Mukerji’s juvenile fictions, emphasising on how he conveys the interconnectedness of community life in India, familial ties, and spiritual harmony to his Western audiences. Focusing the harmonious relationship between humans and nature, Mukerji’s writings illustrate the essence of mutual relationship that form basis of Indian culture and makes him the cultural ambassador, bridging the cultural gap between India and America.
Keywords: Indian ethnicity, Spiritual Wisdom, Cosmopolitanism, Reciprocity, Indigenous culture.
