Abstract: 1.Abstract The Gharanas are nothing but styles or different types of schools in Hindustani music. The practice of Guru Shishya Parampara is the main reason for the origin of the Gharanas. In Gharana tradition, the disciples had to undergo rigorous training and practice for a specified number of years. In the old days, it was very difficult to travel from one place to another and listen to different artists. Some of the Gurus themselves refused to allow their disciples to listen to other artists for a few years. Their main intention was that, at first the complete knowledge of one specific Gharana should be mastered by the disciple’s. But of course the huge development in transport has an impact on the traditional Gharana system.
Keywords: Gharana, Gurushishya Parampara, Transport system growth, Hindustani Music, Karnataka.
