Abstract
The increasing prevalence of predatory journals represents a significant challenge within the Indo-African academic landscape, undermining the integrity of scholarly communication. This overview elucidates the defining characteristics of predatory journals, which typically engage in deceptive practices such as inadequate peer review, lack of transparency, and aggressive solicitation of manuscripts. The motivations behind the rise of these journals are multifaceted, encompassing the pressures on researchers to publish frequently and the allure of open access models that promise wider dissemination of research. The consequences of publishing in predatory journals are dire, including the potential dissemination of flawed research, erosion of academic credibility, and the misallocation of research funding. Furthermore, the Indo-African region is particularly vulnerable due to varying levels of awareness and education regarding ethical publishing practices among researchers. To combat this menace, it is imperative to enhance awareness through targeted educational initiatives, establish clear guidelines for identifying reputable journals, and foster collaboration among academic institutions to promote ethical publishing standards. This overview underscores the urgent need for a concerted effort to safeguard the quality of research output in the region.
