| Abstract: | Chlorophyll is a green pigment that exhibits structural similarities to porphyrin pigments, such as heme and is synthesised through a comparable metabolic pathway. This pigment provides numerous benefits, including the detoxification of the body and the ability to combat infections, while also promoting the health of the circulatory and digestive systems. Additionally, chlorophyll possesses antimutagenic and anticarcinogenic properties. Recent research focused on the extraction of chlorophyll from 13 medicinal plants, which were characterised using UV-visible spectroscopy. The concentrations of chlorophyll A and B were quantified utilising the Armon method, Aegle marmelos, Ocimum tenuiflorum, Azadirachta indica, Murraya koenigii, Mentha Avensis and spectrophotometry, employing 80% acetone as a solvent, indicating that Aegle marmelos plant contained the highest concentration of chlorophyll. This finding positions it as a readily accessible and cost-effective source of this advantageous pigment. |
