Abstract: Cement Concrete is the most frequently used manmade material in the construction industry. The basic materials used for manufacturing concrete includes cement, sand, coarse aggregates & water. So, it is essential to utilize industrial by - products and waste products instead of concrete, which has many advantages in achieving sustainability. Waste materials like glass powder from glass manufacturing industries can be grounded and used as an alternative for cement as it has high silica content, thus making it potentially pozzolanic. Other materials like Vermiculite which is a low-density material obtained by exfoliating rock can be used in concrete. It can be used as replacement for fine aggregate, owing to its specific properties such as light weight, improved workability, fire resistance. This project work aims at studying the effects of replacing cement and fine aggregate by glass powder and vermiculite respectively in M25 grade concrete. Concrete cylinder and concrete cube specimens with 5%, 10% & 15% of vermiculite by the weight of cement / cylinders with 5%, 10% & 15% of vermiculite & other set of cubes with 5%, 10% & 15% of Glass powder were casted. The main aim of this research is to study the workability, compression strength, splitting tensile strength for various proportions of vermiculite and glass powder are compared with conventional specimens.
Keywords: Concrete, Vermiculite, Glass powder, Compressive strength, Low density, improved workability.
