The development of traditional houses in Indonesia is closely related to the community's view of their function in everyday life. The Bugis tribe currently still maintains wooden stilt houses as their residences. As a cultural wealth, the existence of traditional houses supports the welfare of the community. This study focuses on the Bugis community's views on social and environmental aspects in building and managing traditional houses. The results of this study illustrate that the construction of traditional houses fosters hopes for a more prosperous life. This can be achieved with a work ethic supported by sunlight entering the house. Furthermore, the motivation to achieve a more comfortable life is realized by arranging windows, the front of the house, and the division of space in the house. Meanwhile, the environmental aspects that underlie the management of the house are considerations of comfort through the utilization of environmental potential such as height, wind direction, and division of space. The provision of sanitation and clean water are also important considerations in traditional houses.
