Abstract: Since their discovery about eight decades ago, steroids have been widely used in the management of numerous medical conditions. Steroids' strong anti-inflammatory and immune-modulating qualities account for a large number of their therapeutic uses. Steroid hormones are the primary secretory products of specialized tissues in the body, affecting almost every tissue, including the central nervous system. Their effects are mediated by receptor proteins specific for each hormone class. These effects are similar in each tissue through individual expression of steroid hormone receptors and tissue-selective expression of co-regulatory proteins. Steroid hormone receptors can regulate gene transcription through direct and indirect interactions with DNA or influence signaling pathways through cell membrane associations. Steroids might affect some medical conditions, such as diabetes, heart or blood pressure problems, or mental health issues. If you have any of these conditions, the person treating you will need to make sure the steroids aren’t making the condition worse. These review focus on the classification, structure, uses and side effects of the steroids. In these review the classification of the steroids are highlights.
