The durability of concrete containing ternary blends of Portland cement, silica fume, and a wide range of fly ashes has been studied. The Portland cement concretes and concretes with various combinations of cement, fly ash and silica fume were tested to establish parameters of compressive strength. The effects of different durations of moist-curing were also determined. The concrete with gradually replacement of cement by fly ash and silica fume. Concretes at a water-cement ratio of 0.45 to 0.55 with satisfactory 28-day good strengths can be obtained with either type of cement and various combinations of fly ash and silica fume. Supplementary materials such as fly ash, slag and silica fume when used in concrete production have been found to be beneficial in improving several properties including strength and permeability and in many cases reducing the overall production cost. Strength improvements due to the addition of mineral admixtures is due to the pozzolanic reaction taking place, which typically starts after seven days and causes in increase in the amounts of C-S-H gel which is known to be the strength imparting component in concrete. Studies have also shown that a combination of cement with fly ash improves the strength of concrete at all ages similar to the addition of silica fume. From the test results of the study, it can be concluded that the compressive strength of concrete increases with various curing age becomes constant after some period.
