Abstract—India aims to achieve a $5 trillion economy by 2027, a goal that encompasses every citizen rather than being solely a government target. However, the feasibility of achieving socio-economic growth is in doubt if citizens are unable to meet their basic needs, such as having two square meals a day. The endeavour to attain a $5 trillion economy hinges significantly on ensuring food security, a complex concept that extends beyond mere considerations of food production, availability, and demand. The Public Distribution System (PDS) is poised to significantly contribute to India's journey towards achieving a $5 trillion economy. It serves as a cornerstone of our food security strategy, ensuring the distribution of food grains to citizens at affordable prices and providing essential support during emergencies and other critical circumstances. This Paper: a) Studies the Role of Public Distribution System in the country and know the possible contribution of PDS in making India a $5 trillion Economy. b) Analyse the obstacles and issues it experiences and iii) Put forth possible solutions to fill the loopholes associated with PDS. The research draws upon data published by the Food Corporation of India and analyses from reputed organisations to align with the National Master Plan aimed at reaching a $5 trillion economy. The findings underscore how improvements in the Public Distribution System (PDS) can accelerate overall economic growth, paving the way for achieving the $5 trillion milestone while advancing the Sustainable Development Goal of 'Leaving No One Behind'.
