Abstract: We, in this digital age, are witnessing the evolution of many new media technologies and their applications. One of them is the revolution in the shopping industry brought along by online shopping platforms. These platforms are commonly referred to as Electronic Commerce platforms or simply E-Commerce platforms. These have changed the way individuals are shopping. College students in Delhi, being the national capital, have easy access to the internet and associated devices. This easy access is hence providing the facility of using various E-Commerce platforms to these young individuals who are constantly connected through the internet. The use of these platforms has grown with time. It should be noted that these platforms provide an abundance of information to the users in numerous ways from an extensive variety of brands and products to reviews and ratings. However, this abundance of choice can sometimes overwhelm users, leading to information overload, a state wherein users often encounter a surplus of information, leading to decision-making challenges and cognitive strain. The main objective of the paper is to find out whether these E-Commerce platforms contribute to information overload among college students in Delhi. An online survey was conducted to investigate various aspects of information overload, including the huge volume of options available on E-Commerce platforms, the problem of decision-making, choice fatigue etc. The study is grounded on the conceptual framework provided by two theories, namely Individual Differences Theory and Uses and Gratifications Theory. The study has revealed that E-Commerce platforms contribute to information overload among the youth. The research also indicates that the excessive amount of information makes the decision-making process more difficult when shopping online. The findings of this research will contribute to the understanding of the relationship between technology, information deluge, and consumer behaviour in the context of E-Commerce.
