ABSTRACT-Ageing is considered as a gradual, lifelong biological process bringing about irreversible changes in physical, psychological, sociological, spiritual aspects. All these changes may lead to the feeling of rejection, depression, hopelessness, loneliness. GENERAL OBJECTIVE To determine the effectiveness of reminiscence therapy on depression and loneliness among elderly. SPECIFIC OBJECTIVE 1. To assess the level of depression and loneliness among elderly 2. To assess the effectiveness of reminiscence therapy on depression and loneliness among elderly 3. To find the association between the pre-test level of depression and loneliness among elderly with demographic variables. RESEARCH METHODOLOGY In the present study quantitative research approach was used. Pre experimental one group pre-test post-test research design was appropriate to evaluate the effectiveness of reminiscence therapy on depression and loneliness among elderly in a selected old age home of Guwahati, Assam. Sample size is 60 elderly selected by using non-probability purposive sampling technique. The tools used for data collection were socio demographic Data, Geriatric Depression Scale (GDS), UCLA (University of California Los Angeles) Loneliness Scale Version 3. Data was analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics. RESULTS The post-test mean depression score was 5.08 ± 1.03 was lesser than pre-test mean depression score was 8.02 ± 1.83 with mean difference was 2.94. The post-test mean loneliness score was 40.75 ± 7.394 was lesser than pre-test mean loneliness score was 63.98 ± 5.401 with mean difference was 23.23. There was significant association between the pre-test level of depression with the previous occupation of the elderly and the pre-test level of loneliness was found to be significant with age of the elderly. CONCLUSION From the study result it was concluded that reminiscence therapy was effective in reduction of depression and loneliness among elderly.
