Doing laundry is a chore that most people do daily, but this regular task ends up being difficult and tedious for colorblind people as they have to sort various colored clothes to put in the washer. To address this problem, this study created a laundry color identifier from a TCS3200 color sensor to minimize labor and make things convenient for visually impaired people, specifically those who are colorblind. The quantitative method was used to properly organize the experiment, ensure that the appropriate type of data was available to answer, and provide a high level of control over the variables that demonstrated an outcome, giving it an advantage in determining accuracy, consistency, and precision in its results. The results of the laundry color identifier revealed that it is the most efficient when sorting white clothing as compared to the time it took to sort light-colored clothing and dark-colored clothing. However, it is important to note limitations such as the restrictive use of the device in which the clothes have to be sorted individually instead of in batches and the accuracy of the TCS3200 color sensor’s photodiode that is impacted by variations in lighting conditions. This study contributes to existing knowledge, specifically, the utilization of TCS3200, to assist those who are visually impaired by employing principles used in sensor technology. This showcases a handy approach for colorblind people to accomplish a taxing daily task and enhance their experience in doing so. The study demonstrates that the improvised laundry color identifier was a useful first step toward easier clothing segregation in this era of technological advancement and the rising trend of assistive technology.
