El Nino, which formed in central and eastern tropical Pacific Ocean affect the normal weather in various regions of the world. This enchanting phenomena is infamous for its historical correlation with extreme heatwaves, catastrophic floods, and protracted drought worldwide. The effect of El Nino can also be seen strongly in India. It can be said specifically that, due to the restricted winds, the Indian South-West Monsoon season of West Bengal is characterized by long and hot summers along with delayed and short monsoon. As a result, West Bengal’s paddy cultivation (mainly Aman paddy) is severely damaged and rice production is considerably reduced. For the low production of rice, the socio-economic condition of West Bengal is facing enough challenges. If the amount of rainfall reduced due to El Nino, is known well in advance, it will be much easier for West Bengal to deal with the challenges by taking precautionary measures.
