Abstract: Areas dominated by agricultural societies, children often drop out of school to work in agriculture, while in impoverished areas, children are forced labor to support their families, further perpetuating the gender gap and contributing to women's marginalization. Gender inequality is a widespread problem in many parts of the world, affecting every aspect of social, economic and political life. In this paper, we provide a detailed comparative analysis of gender inequality at the block level across the decade 2011-2021 in Jaunpur District. India's HDI report for 2021 ranked the country 132nd out of 191 countries, with indicators like literacy rates, per capita income, and infant mortality highlighting disparities, in regions like Jaunpur. With the help of census data and other pertinent statistics, the disparities in literacy and education between men and women across different blocks in the district have been examined. The results of this study provide an in-depth understanding of the changing dynamics of gender inequality over the past decade in Jaunpur District. By identifying disparities at block level, policy makers and stakeholders can better target interventions to address the specific needs of various communities and formulate gender-sensitive policies to promote greater equality and empowerment.
Keywords: Keywords: agricultural societies, forced labor, women's marginalization, education, literacy, infant mortality, gender-sensitive policies.
