Abstract: The National Social Assistance Programme (NSAP) introduced by the Government of India on 15.8.1995 with a view to support minimum needs of the poor destitute having little or no regular income from their own source or through financial support from their family members. One of the components is National Old Age Pension scheme. Under the scheme poor destitute old aged persons of 65 and above are extended support at the rate of Rs.75/- per pensioner per month .Later it increased to Rs.200 and at present a beneficiary get per month Rs.400/- as pension amount under IGNOAPS. This research seeks to provide valuable insights into the effectiveness of the pension scheme in enhancing the quality of life for elderly individuals and contribute to informed policy decisions in the realm of social welfare. To evaluate the scheme's contribution to income stability and poverty alleviation among elderly beneficiaries. Finally, the study came with measures taken to overcome the difficulties. The study was useful for the department of Social Welfare in Sathyamangalam taluk. I have taken only 242 respondents. In conclusion, the Indira Gandhi National Old Age Pension Scheme plays a crucial role in providing financial security to elderly citizens across India.
