Abstract: This study examines the impact of the Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Grameen Kaushalya Yojana (DDU-GKY) schemes on sustainable development in rural India, specifically in the Coimbatore region. The DDU-GKY plan, launched by the Indian government, intends to skill rural youth and offer them with job possibilities in order to stimulate economic growth and development in rural areas. To gain thorough insights, the research uses a mixed-methods strategy that includes both quantitative surveys and qualitative interviews. This study assesses the level of awareness among rural communities regarding the DDU-GKY schemes, identifies the factors influencing their awareness levels, evaluates the effectiveness of the schemes in facilitating skill development and employment generation, and explores the challenges and opportunities encountered in the implementation phase. Furthermore, the study investigates the socioeconomic effects of the DDU-GKY schemes on rural communities in Coimbatore and makes recommendations for improving the schemes' effectiveness and reach to ensure long-term development in rural India. The findings of this study add to the current literature on rural development initiatives and give useful insights for policymakers, practitioners, and stakeholders involved in skill development and job creation programs in India.
