| Abstract: | Barbara Gowdy’s short story titled We So Seldom Look on Love was published in 1992 as part of a collection under the same title. The stories featured in this book deal with the abnormal deviant forms of love which commonly find expression in the gothic genre. This paper will explore the rise of necrophilic expressions in gothic literature and analyse the depiction of the same in the selected short story. Theories on female sexuality proposed by Judith Butler and Helene Cixous will be applied in order to understand the stigma attached to necrophilia. |
