ABSTRACT
Hyperuricemia is a common state in which a large population is affected. It affects males more than females. Subsequent studies reveals that the ratio between male and female is 5:1 in context of prevalence. Uric acid circulates in urate form in physiological conditions. Hyperuricemia is the condition in which uric acid level is elevated in blood. And it is mostly asymptomatic unless the crystals of monosodium urate deposits at the metatarsal joints and develops symptoms of gout e.g. pain, swelling, redness, tenderness, and deformity at joint. Gout is the most common complication of long term hyperuricemia, and it is also linked with the nephrolithiasis, renal failure, cardiovascular diseases, stroke, liver diseases and metabolic syndrome. In classical Unani literature, gout is briefly discussed and many of the ancient Unani physicians advocated the bloodletting for the management of Wajaul Mafasil, Niqrus and Irqunnisa because they deposited those diseases in same species. On the other hand, it is supposed that Hijamah removes morbid material like uric acid crystal with hijamah blood. The present study was set on 26patients of hyperuricemia to evaluate the efficiency of Hijamah Bis Shart in hyperuricemia and to evaluate the evacuation of uric acid in hijamah blood.
