A PRE-EXPERIMENTAL STUDY TO ASSESS THE EFFECTIVENESS OF STRUCTURED TEACHING PROGRAMME ON KNOWLEDGE AND PRACTICE REGARDING MENSTRUAL HYGIENE AMONG ADOLESCENT GIRLS IN A SELECTED SCHOOL, AGARTALA, TRIPURA
A pre-experimental research study was conducted to assess the effectiveness of structured teaching programme on knowledge and practice regarding menstrual hygiene among adolescent girls in a selected school, Agartala, Tripura. The objectives of the study was to assess the level of knowledge and practice of adolescent girls regarding menstrual hygiene, to evaluate the effectiveness of structured teaching programme, to find out the association between the pre-existing level of knowledge and practice scores regarding menstrual hygiene among adolescent girls with their selected socio-demographic variables. 60 samples were selected by purposive sampling technique. The conceptual framework was used based on J. W. Kenny‘s open system model theory. The tool was validated by 7 experts and reliability of the tool was 0.7 (r). Pre-existing of the tool was conducted among adolescent girls to know the feasibility, ambiguity and clarity of items, pilot study was conducted among 10 students who fulfilled the sampling technique in a selected school in Nutananagar Girls’ Higher Secondary School at Agartala. Data for the main study was collected from Sukhamoy Higher Secondary School, Agartala, Tripura with sample size 60 students from 7th September, 2020 to 14th September, 2020. Descriptive and inferential statistics were used to analyze the data. The result revealed that the majority of nursing students 87.6% have moderately adequate knowledge and most of the nursing students 65.1% have poor practice. There was a moderately positive relation (r=0.381) between knowledge and stated practice of nursing students regarding biomedical waste management. The adolescent girl’s knowledge and practice regarding menstrual hygiene were low and inadequate so that school teachers, family members and nursing staffs should be informed and motivated them to do good menstrual hygiene practice and maintain their health.
