Abstract: In the modern era of construction, floating column is an unavoidable feature of buildings. Floating column are highly vulnerable in building built in seismic prone areas. This study highlights the response of RC buildings due to discontinuity in load path & evaluate risk of floating column for project G+4 RCC building. Conclusion on risk of building is made on the basis of amount of variation in dynamic parameters like Storey shear, storey displacement, storey drift of building & bending moment & shear force in transfer girder. The effect of earthquake forces on various building models for various parameters is proposed to be carried out with the help of linear seismic analysis methods proposed in IS 1893 Part 1: 2016. Finally, analysis results in the building such as base shear, storey displacement, storey drift and fundamental time period are measured for review. The present work deals with, mitigation of intended risk of floating column by provision of structural system/configuration such as pre-stressed girder, shear wall & bracing system. Conclusions made on percentage reduction in building response by comparing models having floating columns with structurally configure models.
