Abstract: Cloud computing no doubt play a vital role in the development of every corporation no matter what sector it belongs. It is especially useful for tertiary institutions and SMEs. However many factors are seriously impeding the adoption of this notable computer paradigm. This study investigates the level of awareness and adoption of cloud computing among small and medium scale enterprises (SMEs) and tertiary institutions in Kebbi State, Nigeria. We also investigate the socio economic distributions of staff in IT related departments among SMEs and Tertiary institutions in the study area to establish possible limiting or contributing factors to its adoption. We raised six (6) research questions which formed basis for designing a self structured questionnaire. The population of the study comprises of 214 core IT users from tertiary institutions and SMEs.. Result of findings exposed not only the level of awareness and adoption but also the reasons limiting its adoption.
