After pelvic irradiation, radiation proctitis is a problematic side effect of radiation therapy for up to 75% of patients. Cancers of the prostate, ovary, cervix, and uterus are the most common indications for pelvic irradiation. In this review, we provide a summary of the choices for treating radiation proctitis, with a focus on the use of formalin as an inexpensive and accessible treatment option in India promptly and effectively.
