The product obtained when N-chlorosuccinimide is reduced in tungusto phosphoric acid catalyzed oxidation of ℓ-glycine in aqueous acetic acid medium. The rate of reaction is not acid catalyzed exhibits fractional-order kinetics each for trio [TPA], [H+] and [ℓ-glycine].The involvement of HOCl active species is believed to be initiated by the formation of ternary complex between Zwitter ion and TPA catalyst in equilibrium state. Rearrangement of this complex undergoes a rapid reduction to form formaldehyde. The succinimide a reduced product of oxidant did not bring about any significant change on oxidation rate. The elucidated synchronized mechanism was in good consonance with the derived rate expression and assigned stoichiometry (1:1) of the reaction.
