Raman scattering is one of the most informative experimental techniques that allows one to observe elementary excitations of solids by the frequency shift between incident and scattered photons on a sample. In this work the theoretical basis of Raman scattering have been presented in a very lucid manner and its applicability towards low dimensional semiconductors have been focused.
