Abstract: Background: Success to any dental procedure lies in the art of impression-making. Even though there are gold-standard materials and techniques, the advent of newer materials and techniques has paved the way to faster success. The purpose of this study is to compare and evaluate the retention of denture bases fabricated using different border molding and secondary impression materials. Methodology: In this study, the retentive values were evaluated for 3 groups. Group I ( Border molding with low fusing compound and secondary impression with Zinc Oxide eugenol paste), Group 2 ( Border molding with heavy body and secondary impression with light-bodied addition silicone) and Group 3, ( border moulding and secondary impression with Monophase addition silicone ) using a force gauge. Results: There were statistically significant changes in retention values between the three groups. Group 3 had higher mean retention values compared to the other two groups. There was a statistically significant difference in retention values between group 1 and group 3, indicating that monophase material could be used for both border molding and secondary impressions. Conclusion: Within the limitations of the study, Polyvinyl siloxane as a monophase material can be used for border molding as well as secondary impression material in a single edentulous condition and provides better retention of denture bases than the denture bases fabricated by the other 2 groups.
