| Abstract: | The heart is a muscular organ in the circulatory system that is responsible forpumpingbloodthroughoutthebloodvesselstoourbody.Coronary artery disease (CAD) also known as ischemic heart disease is agroupofdiseasesthatincludesstableangina,unstableanginaandmyocardialinfraction. A study was done to assess the effect of IEC (Information, Education and Communication) package on knowledge and attitude of adults 100 in experimental and 100 in control group regarding modifiable risk factors of coronary artery disease at rural community, tiruvannamalai district byusing convenience sampling technique. The pretest was conducted with the help of structured interview schedule to assess the knowledge and attitude of adults in experimental and control group. After pretest IEC package on modifiable risk factors of coronary artery disease was provided in experimental group through Lecture cum discussion, cardiac exercises demonstration, slide showfollowed by post test was conducted. In experimental group the pretest means score of knowledge was 7.77 with SD+2.61 and the post test mean score was 20.20 with SD +2.11. In control group the pretest mean score of knowledge was 8.38 with SD+ 2.90 and the post test mean score was 8.37 with SD+ 3.10 In experimental group the pretestmeanscoreofattitudewas46.90 withSD+6.98 and the post test mean score was 82.59 with SD +8.38 In control group the pre test mean score of attitude was 46.08 with SD+ 7.74 and the post test mean score was 45.28 with SD+ 7.85. This study concluded that there was a statistically significant difference in the score of knowledge and attitude between experimental and control group. If the public is properly educated they can act as resource personal to impart knowledge and modify the preventive health behaviour of their family and thus to thecommunity. |
