In this study we are going to learn, the capacity spectrum method, a nonlinear static procedure that provides a graphical representation of the global force-displacement capacity curve of the structure and compares it to the response spectra representations of the earthquake demands, is a very useful tool in the evaluation and retrofit design of existing concrete buildings. The graphical representation provides a clear picture of how a building is going to respond to earthquake ground motion and it provides an immediate and clear picture of how various retrofit strategies, such as adding stiffness or strength, will impact the building’s response to earthquake demands.
