As the "gold standard" for imaging the oral and maxillofacial region, CBCT is expected to become a common procedure in most settings during the next few decades. Delivering this technology to patients responsibly is important to optimise diagnostic value and keep radiation doses as low as it is practicably possible. Pediatric patients with malocclusions and craniofacial anomalies, such as cleft lip and palate, can benefit from using CBCT. It has also been shown to be useful for assessing unerupted teeth accurately, particularly for the canines in the upper arch, and for figuring out how much root resorption has occurred. CBCT also provides a proper relationship between the dentition and for assessment of treatment planning and its outcome.
